Friday May 1 at 6:30 PM

Walk Lead: Maura Donovan

Description: The North End at Night, c 1878” is a short work of historical fiction based on the detailed 1878 street map of Dartmouth, and Forsyth’s own knowledge, having grown up in the North End in the early 1900s. The story follows a Tufts Cove resident as he returns home from an evening with friends in Dartmouth. We’ll retrace the tired traveller’s steps home. On the way we’ll pass significant landmarks and the homes of notable characters of the day. We will also spotlight the 1878 map (available online) and the crucial role that old maps continue to play for those conducting historical or genealogical research. “The North End at Night” was published posthumously in the book “A Goodly Heritage” (Ian K Forsyth and Edith M Rowlings; publisher: Dartmouth Heritage Museum).
