The Beginning of Democracy in Halifax's Downtown Heritage District

Description: This walk will be a review of historic developments in Halifax, circa 1840 and the legendary characters that were driving these developments. Beginning at the former site of Enos Collins’ Halifax banking company, proceeding to the national historic site of Halifax Regional municipality City Hall and viewing the Joseph Howe memorial outside of the Nova Scotia legislature visiting some other historic places that symbolize important points in the city's development, this tour will will feature both historic structures and the illustrative explanations of how democracy government first developed in the City of Halifax.
Starting location: Halifax Banking Company building - An area called Collin's Court, in the alley just north of the Heritage Properties front entry.
End location: Alexander Keith’s Brewery
Duration: 1-1.5 hours
More info: There will be some inclines and declines but stairs will be avoided. The tour will be spoken in a semi-structured manner and in English.
